- Essential Questions
1. People are often raised with their beliefs; that is, the views of the parent often become those of the child.
2. Public opinion comes from the collective people, but it is very strongly influenced by the media, which presents the information
3. Political Culture refers to the environment both within and towards politics. Americans have a unique culture in this respect- they are quick to boast of their political system and yet are publicly, loudly, epochally disappointed when they actually take part.
4. Political spectrum is the degree to which a certain issue, person, or idea falls within the blue, or left, and the red, or right. A ‘litmus test’, is a reference to acid/base tests, and is often used to identify where the subject is- for example, the abortion control debate.
5. They don’t. They merely express our views, for the time being. As citizens, we should be actively involved and educated about political issues, therefore our views should not define us- we should be flexible.
6. A citizen pays taxes, according to the government, although this is not exactly true. A citizen, in reality, is expected to be a part of the political process and urged to be a productive member of the society or government to which he/she belongs; although they should not be absolutely required to to enjoy their basic human rights.
7. These organizations lay the groundwork for the politics. Without them, campaigns would be unable to advertise their message and make the other side look bad.
8. A large part of being elected is advertising. The more times people have heard your message, the theory goes, the more likely they are to vote for you. In addition, if you can make the other party, candidate, or side look bad, then the voters will have no choice but to pick you, the better one.
9. In actuality, the role they already play is likely the role they should. As much as we like to hate on political campaigning, the core concept of telling people what you are all about is crucial to the electoral process. Maybe it can be improved, but this essential function is just that.
